Inflation is here and it is not going anywhere. Prices of daily necessities and consumer goods are going up all over the world. Just recently, Sony raised the price of the PS5 globally. The latest iPhone 14 series also got a price hike in Malaysia. Despite being a company that is worth more than USD2.4 trillion, Apple also has no choice but to raise prices.
Apple just announced yesterday that they will be raising the price of apps and in-app purchases on the App Store in Malaysia. But the prices of auto-renewable subscriptions will remain the same. If developers so choose, they can continue to charge current members the same subscription fees.
Other countries are getting the same bad news as well. Chile, Egypt, Japan, Pakistan, Poland, South Korea, Sweden, Vietnam, and all territories that use the euro currency will also see a price increase. Apple said the price adjustment will take effect as early as 5 October 2022, so the price changes might happen later in Malaysia.
Apple didn’t provide the reason for the price increase, but we assumed it had something to do with the weakening of the Ringgit and inflation.
