Social media is all about sharing and reposting other users’ content when you see something that interests you. This feature is available on Facebook and Twitter, but until today, Instagram (IG) still doesn’t have this key feature. That is about to change.
According to TechCrunch, Meta told them that they will give users the ability to repost other users’ posts and reels and they are planning to test this new feature soon with a small number of people.
A social media consultant, Matt Navara, first spotted this new feature. He saw there was a new tab in Instagram’s CEO, Adam Mosseri’s, profile.
Currently, if you want to repost other users’ posts on IG, you have to use third-party apps. The only thing you can do right now is repost someone’s post in your Story, but this new feature will allow you to share it on your feed as well. Reposts will be seen on your profile in the dedicated repost tab and in your followers’ feeds.
Apparently, IG has been working on this new feature for the past few months according to app researcher, Alessandro Paluzzi.
The screenshots also imply that when resharing a post, users would have the ability to add their own comments.
As this is just a test, there’s a chance it might or might not be available to all users in the future. We do hope IG implements this useful feature though.
