Malaysian WhatsApp users are getting early access to the new Communities to feature ahead of the global rollout starting today.

WhatsApp says that the feature will be gradually rolled out to all Malaysians in the next few weeks.

The Community feature lets users bring separate WhatsApp Groups under one umbrella, making it easier for them to share information and organise themselves.

Administrators will have control over which Groups can be included in a Community, and the option to start smaller discussion Groups. They can also send announcements to all members through an announcement Group.

Additionally, only administrators may add members to a Community or send an invitation link. They will have the ability to remove members as well.

We believe that all conversations on WhatsApp — one-to-one, in Groups or in Communities — are inherently private. This is why all messages on WhatsApp — including in Communities — are protected with end-to-end Encryption
