If you have been following tech news, you would know that Xiaomi just released its latest series of phones packing the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. However, during the launch, the company didn’t say whether they would release the phones outside of China. But now we know the answer.
According to a report by SoyaCincau, the Xiaomi 12S series, which includes the 12S, 12S Pro, and 12S Ultra, will not be available in nations other than mainland China, including Malaysia, according to Xiaomi. The debut, which was also well publicised, was intended to signal its formal partnership with Leica.
Xiaomi promises to deliver the Leica camera experience to international markets, thus it could not necessarily be the Xiaomi 12S series, which is now only available in China.
As to why they are not planning to release the phones outside of China, the company didn’t provide any answer. But Xiaomi is planning to release 12T models soon, and it will be their affordable flagship series. Just don’t expect to see Leica-branded cameras. Maybe because they are planning to release 12T internationally, they are not bringing the 12S series to other countries.
So to all Xiaomi fans in Malaysia, you can stop waiting. If you really want to get your hands on one, your only option is to get it from sellers who sell China-imported smartphones on Shopee or Lazada.
