National Security Unaffected By Recent Data Leaks Says Defence Minister

However, he did not comment about the safety and security of individual Malaysians who’s data is being sold.

Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein assured that his ministry has systems in place that could defend national security from any issues that resulted from the recent data leaks. 

The Defence Minister said that “This sort of threat does not jeopardise national security” reported The Star.

Recently data of approximately 22.5 million Malaysian adults that were born between 1940 to 2004 has gone up for sale. The seller claimed that the data was taken from the National Registration Department (JPN) through the myIDENTITY API.

The same seller had also put up for sale what they claim to be MyKad selfies and data of approximately 800k Malaysians.

Since then Bukit Aman has said that the police are investigating the matter and Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin had denied that the data was from JPN.
