On 11 May at 1.30 am, officers from the Hilir Perak Police Department, along with members from the Teluk Intan Fire and Rescue Station, and Tenaga Nasional Berhad, conducted a raid at a shophouse in Teluk Intan.

The raid was done based on reports of residents in an area who have been experiencing intermittent electrical supply issues since two months ago.

During the raid it was uncovered that the shophouse had been converted into a crypto mining facility. TNB technicians found evidence of electricity theft and cut the electricity supply.

At the same time the police confiscated crypto mining equipment worth RM140,000.

Hilir Perak Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Adnan Basri said that although the crypto mining machines were operational, no one was present at the premises.

It is believed that the illegal crypto mining operation was active since the power disruptions began.

Police seized 72 units of crypto mining machines with power supplies, 72 units of internet cables, and 72 units of power supply cables that were used to illegally mine cryptocurrency using stolen electricity.

The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code and Section 37 (3) (e) of the Electricity Supply Act 1990.
