Malaysia Is Getting 4 More Undersea Cables & One Of Them Is In Cooperation With Facebook

The Communications and Multimedia minister said in parliament that the country is getting four more undersea communications cables to meet Malaysia’s demands.

This will add to the existing 17 undersea cables that connect East and West Malaysia and the rest of the world.

One of the four new undersea cables involves a Bay to Bay Express (BtoBE) system by  Facebook with cooperation by Time Dotcom Berhad as a landing partnering Cherating. It is expected to be completed by the first quarter of  2023.

Another is a MIST Cable system by NTT with cooperation with Arus Restu Sdn Bhd as a landing partner in Morib. This project is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2023.

The third is an IAX cable system that will land in Morib and is expected to be ready by the end of 2022.

Lastly, the MaSICS cable system by PP Telecommunications Sdn Bhd will land in Kucing and is also expected to be ready by the end of 2022.

He said this as a response to a question by Senator Robert Lau Hui Yew in Dewan Rakyat.
