Today in Parliament, the Communications and Multimedia Minister formally announced that the application for the PerantiSiswa Keluarga Malaysia will open soon.

The package is designed specifically for institutions of higher learning (IPT) students from the bottom 40% income group (B40) families.

Previously Tan Sri Annuar Musa has already said  that applicants will be able to apply for the programme starting mid-April and get their devices in June.

However, today, Amaz reported that the government had put out the minimal specifications of the tablets that are eligible in the PerantiSiswa programme.

According to them, the tablet must have a display that is at least 10.1in across, has 4GB of RAM, and the provider of the device must also offer a keyboard and stylus together with the tablet.

The brand and model of the tablet or tablets offered in the PerantiSiswa programme has not been named at this time.

However it is tough to name a tablet that would fit all of the government’s specifications at the price that they have budgeted – which is approximately RM750 per unit.

We predict that the display resolution, storage capacity, and processing capabilities of the tablet would be less than ideal – or even practical – for it to fit the bill.
