Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) removed Samsung from its 5G Supported Device list and reduced its average 5G speed in an update.

Previously DNB listed devices from nine predominantly Chinese phone makers, in their currently supported device list. This includes devices from Honor, Huawei, Nokia, Oppo, Realme, Vivo, Xiaomi, ZTE, and Samsung.

However, recently Samsung devices (more specifically the Galaxy S21 series) have been moved from the compatible list to the Upcoming list.

Devices on the Upcoming list includes smartphones from Apple, Motorola, Asus, Samsung and TCL.

These devices are expected to be compatible with DNB’s 5G network in the first quarter of 2022.

Looking at the 2021 fourth quarter global smartphone market share, Malaysia’s 5G service does not support the world’s top two smartphone maker: Apple and Samsung. (1, 2)

Absent from the list is Samsung’s latest devices including the now available Galaxy S21 FE and the recently announced Galaxy S22 series.

Meanwhile, Amans reported that DNB has reduced their average 5G speeds from 624Mbps from the week before to 583.27 Mbps.

We have reached out to Samsung for comments and will update this story accordingly when we get their reply.
