The Communications and Multimedia Ministry (KKMM) has urged telcos to raise telecommunication towers by 10 feet (approximately 3 meters), in lieu of the recent floods.
Its minister, Tan Seri Annuar Musa, said this will mitigate the risk of communication outages especially during disasters.
Annuar has also asked the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to ensure towers located in areas liable to flooding to move their equipment above ground level.
He added that communication systems should not falter in the time of crisis especially during floods.

The recent floods caused damage to approximately 1,000 communications towers which caused service disruptions in areas that need help the most.
According to recent reports the repair work is still ongoing.
He cited Japan’s earthquake warning system, warnings of earthquakes, no matter how small, is broadcasted to every mobile phone.
He said this at a media conference after completing the Jelajah Prihatin KKMM programme at Yayasan Kemiskinan Kelantan (YKK) Peringat, yesterday.
