The Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) in a special joint operation with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has successfully toppled what is said to be the largest illegal crypto mining operation in the state of Perak.
The operation, which was done yesterday, began at 9 am and ended at 10 pm.
It involved 154 police officers and personnel, 15 TNB special technicians, and six fire and rescue team members, reported Kosmo.
Together they raided 75 premises in the Manjung, Perak area and found illegal crypto mining operations at 30 of the locations.
22 of these illegal crypto mining operations were located in Setiawan, four in Seri Manjung, three in Ayer Tawar, and one in Kampung Bharu.
Perak police chief, Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said that the police had confiscated 1,720 crypto mining machines worth RM2,000 each and other equipment totalling RM3.5 million during the raid.
These include 15 units of monitors, 22 central processing units (CPUs), 16 units of keyboards, 56 modems, a Toyota Hilux vehicle, 44 fans, seven units of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, and a laptop.
TNB has also estimated that the theft of electricity was worth about RM2 million.
Meanwhile, a 28-year-old suspect, who worked at business premises, was arrested in Ayer Tawar and was remanded for four days, starting yesterday.
An investigation under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft and Section 427 of the same law for mischief is still ongoing as the mastermind responsible has not yet been caught.
Recently the police had also successfully shut down an illegal cryptocurrency operation in Sarawak.
