In reaction to the devastation faced by Malaysia and the Philippines as a result of Typhoon Rai, Apple CEO, Tim Cook made an unexpected announcement on twitter.
Typhoon Rai has caused so much devastation in the Philippines and Malaysia — so many families have lost so much. Apple will be contributing to relief, recovery, and longer-term rebuilding efforts. #OdettePH

Apple has been magnanimous before, promising aid to several states in the US that were affected by tornadoes and disaster relief efforts in Shanxi, China.
It is unknown how much Apple will spend to help out the people affected by Typhoon Rai or when the aid will come.
However, what was less surprising is the reaction of Malaysia’s Twitter users to the announcement.
Please dont send the donations to Malaysia’s government. You can reach out all the NGOs in Malaysia to send the donation 🙏🏻 Thank youuu 🙏🏻

Ever since the floods hit over the weekend there has been a strong sentiment in Malaysia to call for donations for NGOs instead of the government.

There are even those who are helpful enough to provide Tim Cook with information about local NGOs.
Direct to NGO please, skip the government. pic.twitter.com/v2AEa0t2aD
