Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa has stated that the single wholesale network (SWN) for the rollout of 5G service has been put on hold.
Yesterday, Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) was told to conduct an engagement session with Parliament on the implementation of Malaysia’s 5G network, this is after reports of the Cabinet reconsidering the network wholesale under DNB.
In a response to Lembah Pantai MP, Fahmi Fadzil’s question if DNB could hold a meeting with the opposition lawmakers, Annuar Musa gave the go ahead for DNB to meet with them as they should be fair and transparent in the matter.
Annuar Musa added that the negotiations between Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) and telcos is being handled by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
He then further stated that the cabinet wanted more explanations before going through with their decision.
So far, our country has chosen the SWN system by forming a company wholly owned by the government to build infrastructure while telcos will implement actions or functions to conduct 5G retail business

Annuar stated that the government has taken an open approach in the matter and it is to be discussed if there will be more than one 5G service provider.
