In a statement, the National Tech Association of Malaysia (Pikom) chairman Danny Lee said that the World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA) has given Pikom another opportunity to host its event.
It was reported that the last time Malaysia hosted the World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT) conference was in 2008.
According to the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) chief executive officer, Mahadhir Aziz, the event held 13 years ago generated RM8.3 billion in tech investments and created 20,000 related jobs.
WCIT 2022 is expected to attract over 4,000 visionaries, captains of industry, government leaders, and academics from over 80 countries to Penang, where the event is being held.
Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the event will put a spotlight on how countries, societies and businesses could succeed in a post-pandemic world by embracing technology and digital transformation.
