PDRM Melaka has nudged political parties and candidates involved in this weekend’s state election to operate responsibly on social media while campaigning.
The state police chief Datuk Abdul Majid Mohd Ali established a special team to monitor social media platforms to make sure the peace is kept round the clock.
The team is made up of a group of three that take shifts to monitor posts, ensuring political parties and candidates maintain a healthy and non-disruptive mannerism online.
He then added during Bicara Khas programme titled ‘The Security of the 15th Melaka State Elections’ on RTM;
This is our responsibility to promote democratic values and not to incite hatred amongst each other.

The monitoring is also done to make sure that the democratic spirit of elections to be upheld and not create a rift amongst voters.
When an offence is detected, the police will conduct an investigation and will forward the papers to the Attorney-General’s Chambers for further action.
Datuk Abdul Majid also advised parties and candidates to comply with the SOPs set by the National Security Council (MKN) and Ministry of Health (MOH) ensuring the election process under the new norms in Melaka will be best suited to be copied in upcoming elections.
PDRM is committed to enforcing the law to keep the peace and make sure voters flock to the voting station without worries of safety and fake news or aggressive campaigning online.
Polling for Melaka state election will take place on 20 November with early voting starting on 16 November.
The state assembly was dissolved after four assemblymen withdrew their support for the Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali.
