It looks like WhatsApp may be introducing new Communities features to their chat app. According to The Verge and WABetaInfo, the new feature lets admins create groups within groups.
The Community feature coming to WhatsApp is similar to Discord where there are multiple channels (sub-communities) under a larger community.
For example, a family group chat may have several subgroups within it, one for each subject or upcoming event.

There could be a subgroup for discussing an upcoming family trip and another subgroup to vote for where to eat out and another group to plan a surprise party.
The Community feature will also offer some tools to admins to better manage all groups included in the community but what they are is still uncertain.
Admins may be able to invite new users via a Community Invite Link and then start messaging other members. All communications are said to be end-to-end encrypted as well.
Since Community has not been finalised, its appearance, features, and everything about it may change before the official release to beta testers.
There are no release dates yet and further details are still unknown and unavailable. However, this feature may help organise WhatsApp groups into a more organised structure.
