YouTube rewind is the company’s round up for the particular year’s biggest happenings: the biggest trends, creators, memes, and popular videos of the year.

The most hated video series in the internet is now being killed off like it should have and YouTube have confirmed it themselves with TubeFilter yesterday.

After shelving last year’s rewind due to, well, 2020 being 2020. YouTube finally confirmed that they will no longer be making any more of the wildly hated video series.

A YouTube spokesperson told TubeFilter that it will “continue to be inspiring to see the myriad of ways the most creative content producers in the world — our YouTube creators — encapsulate the end of year in their video recaps, as YouTube retires its own Rewind video.”

2020 has been different. And it doesn’t feel right to carry on as if it weren’t.

Here is the thing though, Rewind has been hated for years before the pandemic. 2018’s Rewind especially was ripped to shreds by anyone that laid eyes on the video and is the most disliked in the platform to date.

The problem with 2018’s video is that it is TOO advertiser friendly and had controversial cast choices like Logan Paul and Pewdiepie.

2019’s was also hated because it made it look like YouTube was trying to sidestep the controversy of 2018’s video and made it look like that never happened in the first place.

Also, the video was boring and it was a especially weird seeing Will Smith say “Thats hot”.

Despite all this, Rewind has been a big part of the YouTube culture, but I am glad it’s dead. Hopefully, YouTube does not replace Rewind with someone even worse this year.
