PlayStation and Microsoft’s Xbox will surely engage in strong competition with one another with each new console generation. Both consoles made an effort to deliver the finest games, features, and performance. However, there can only be one victor in every battle, and Sony has emerged victorious in the battle of the eighth console generation.
In an article by GizChina, the giant software company had to reveal the sales figure of Xbox One consoles in a Brazilian court document to defend its purchase of Activision Blizzard in front of the Brazilian competition watchdog.
Sony has overtaken Microsoft in terms of console sales and installed base. Having sold more than twice as much as Xbox in the last generation.
However, the company declined to say how many Xbox One consoles were sold. Since 2015, the company has been secretive about console sales. claiming that it is not their preferred “key measure of success.”
But we can roughly estimate how many Xbox One consoles were sold based on PS4’s sales figures.
From this tweet, we know Sony sold 117.2 million units of PS4. This means the Xbox One would then have sold somewhere between 50 and 60 million units. This largely corresponds to current expert projections. According to Statista, a total of 50.53 million Xbox One units have been sold worldwide as of June 2022.
But in the current consoles generation, Xbox Series S/X is doing very well, and even managed to outsell PS5 in Europe. This is most likely due to supply constraints caused by the pandemic, making PS5 incredibly hard to buy.
