Wii U & Nintendo 3DS eShop Will Shut Its Doors Next Year

Nintendo announced today that gamers will no longer be able to make purchases in the Nintendo eShop for the Wii U system and the Nintendo 3DS family of systems as of late March 2023.

This move affects the New Nintendo 3DS, New Nintendo 3DS XL, New Nintendo 2DS XL, Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo 3DS XL, Nintendo 2DS, Wii U Deluxe, and Wii U Basic.

The closure will be gradual.

On 23 May, gamers will no longer be able to use their credit cards to add funds to their account in Nintendo sShop on Wii U or the Nintendo 3DS family of systems.

On 29 Aug, the users of the two eShops will no longer be able to add funds to their Nintendo eShop accounts using the Nintendo eShop Card.

However, gamers can still spend any funds they have in their account until late March 2023 and continue to download games that they have purchased after that date.

Although the closure only affects the US Wii U & Nintendo 3DS eShops, many Malaysian gamers have used US Nintendo accounts to access more and better games and content.
