Pokémon GO turns ten this year, and Niantic has decided the occasion calls for something the franchise has never done with its annual GO Fest: make it free.
Every trainer who logs in on 11 and 12 July gets the full event — Special Research, boosted Shiny encounter rates, hourly rotating habitats and, for the first time in the game’s history, a chance to catch Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y. No ticket required.
KLCC Park has been selected as the official Asia-Pacific community celebration venue for Pokémon GO Fest 2026: Global, running 10am to 7pm on both event days, free to enter. That puts Kuala Lumpur in the same tier of host cities as locations across India, Bangkok, Hong Kong and Seoul for the anniversary weekend. And in what may be the most Malaysian way to participate in a global gaming event, the route there is part of the experience.
Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad has confirmed that 23 of its stations across Peninsular Malaysia will be converted into temporary PokéStops from 11 to 13 July — one day beyond the main event window.
The stations stretch from Padang Besar in Perlis down to JB Sentral and Kempas Baru in Johor, taking in KL Sentral, Ipoh, Butterworth and Batu Caves along the way. For players making the journey to KLCC, the commute doubles as a supply run as each PokéStop can be spun for in-game items, and the odds of encountering special event Pokémon increase during the festival window.
KTMB will also run a booth at KLCC Park across both days offering interactive activities and exclusive Pokémon merchandise, redeemable against the KITS mobile app, a physical Komuter Link card or a valid QR transit ticket.
The global event headline is Mewtwo. Both Mega forms — X and Y — make their Pokémon GO debut this weekend through Super Mega Raid Battles, rotating on alternating days.
Any Mewtwo already in a player’s collection can be Mega Evolved into either form, though both require substantially more Mega Energy than standard Mega Evolutions, making the Super Mega Raids the priority for anyone trying to unlock them early. Every Mewtwo caught from these raids arrives with at least one Mega Level already unlocked, bypassing the initial energy cost.
The second headline is Zeraora, the Thunderclap Pokémon, making its Pokémon GO debut through a Special Research story unlocked simply by logging in during the event weekend. The research does not expire, so there is no pressure to complete it immediately.
To mark the tenth anniversary, each event day has been extended by an hour to nine hours of active gameplay, structured across three rotating habitat blocks covering all 18 Pokémon types. All trainers also receive up to nine free Raid Passes per day from spinning Gym photo discs and up to six special trades, active from midnight to 11:59pm local time on each event day.

For Malaysian players who cannot make it to KLCC Park, the global event works identically from anywhere. The PokéStops along KTMB’s network are a local bonus rather than a requirement. Show up at KLCC or stay home and spin from a Lure Module — either way, Mega Mewtwo is available and Zeraora is waiting in a research task that does not expire.
The only real deadline is the event window itself: 10am to 7pm on 11 and 12 July.
