Filing your taxes online for the first time might seem confusing, but once you’ve done it, next year will be a breeze. Just log in, fill out the form, and update your details once a year. Here’s a simple breakdown to help you through the process.
1) Register as a Taxpayer and Obtain an Income Tax Number
Before you can use e-Filing, you need an Income Tax Number. You can register for one in two ways:
• Online: Go to the e-Daftar portal and follow the registration steps.
• Manual: Visit an LHDN branch and fill in the registration form. Bring along a copy of your IC and relevant documents, such as your EA form or latest salary slip.
2) Get a 16-Digit PIN for MyTax Account Activation
First-time e-Filing users need a 16-digit PIN to activate their MyTax account. You can get it:
• By visiting an LHDN branch with your IC.
• Online via e-CP55D on the MyTax website.
3) Verify Your Email Address
Once you’ve requested the PIN, check your registered email. You’ll receive an email asking you to confirm your details.
• If the email is correct, click “Yes”.
• If the email is incorrect, click “No” and update it with the right one.
4) Activate Your MyTax Account
LHDN will send an activation link to your email. This link is valid for only 48 hours, so don’t delay. Click the link to activate your account.
5) First-Time Login
• Go to MyTax.
• Enter your IC number and 16-digit PIN, then click Submit.
• Set a security phrase, agree to the terms, and submit.
6) Access e-Filing
• Log in to MyTax.

8) Choose the Right Tax Form Based on Your Income
There are different forms based on how you earn:
• Form BE – For individuals with employment income only.
• Submission deadlines: 30 April (manual), 15 May (e-Filing).
• Form B – For those with business income.
• Submission deadlines: 30 June (manual), 15 July (e-Filing).
For a full list of forms, visit LHDN’s official website.
9) Fill in the Form Accurately
The e-Borang (electronic tax form) is divided into sections:
• Personal Information – Verify and update details if needed.
• Income & Deductions – Enter details based on your EA Form or business income records.
• Tax Reliefs – Add eligible deductions (e.g. medical expenses, education, life insurance).
The system will automatically calculate if you need to pay tax or if you qualify for a refund.
10) Sign & Submit
• Review everything to ensure accuracy.
• Click “Tandatangan & Hantar” (Sign & Submit).
• If successful, you’ll receive a submission receipt. Save this for your records.
