Having a personal computer (PC) is essential in today’s digital age. It provides numerous benefits, including access to vast amounts of information, the ability to communicate and connect with others, and the convenience of managing tasks and completing work from anywhere.

With a PC, everyone can learn new skills, pursue educational opportunities, stay informed about current events, and even work or run a business remotely. In addition, a PC is a gateway to a world of entertainment, offering access to streaming services, gaming, and social media. Overall, having a personal computer is crucial for staying connected, productive, and informed in our modern world.

But not everyone can afford to buy a desktop or a laptop. This is why the Selangor state government came up with a program that lends a PC to those who need it.

Selangor Basic Technology Loan Scheme (SEPINTAS) is an initiative of the Selangor state government through Selangor Public Library Corporation (PPAS) is to provide free desktop and laptop loan services to Selangor residents, especially those in need (with priority given to the B40 group) at selected libraries in Selangor.

The desktops and laptops come equipped with speakers, WIFI, webcam, Microsoft Office, and all the necessary equipment for online learning or generating incomes.

To qualify, the borrower must be a Malaysian living in Selangor, but PPAS prioritises students or people coming from a household with per capita income of less than RM3,000 to RM5,000 per month.

One person can only borrow one desktop or a laptop at a time for 180 days. There will be a penalty of RM5 per day for returning the device late. If a borrower lost the computer, they have to pay RM1000 (Desktop) or RM800 (Laptop). A borrower can’t transfer the computer to another person.

The desktop and laptop loan program is implemented in 50 Selangor public libraries, with each library having 10 desktops and 10 laptops available for loan to the public. You can check out the list of the 50 libraries HERE.
