Apple recently collaborated with popular Korean hip hop and R&B artist Jay Park to create a music video using an iPad, Apple Pencil and a suite of creative apps.

The music video for Bite, Park’s latest summer bop, was illustrated by Namon – creator of hit webtoon ‘Jungyuni’.

Namon, who is well-known for being an avid iPad user, took the opportunity to try out 3D drawing through this project. She delighted in the fact that it provided new opportunities for the webtoon creative form and accepted the challenge.

I’ve always enjoyed using the iPad, but through this project, I was especially happy that I got to fully express the emotions and imagery that this song conjured up in me with some amazing iPad apps.

I hope the colourful webtoon style and effects of the music video enable the listeners to appreciate the positive lyrics of this joyous song on a whole new level.

From its initial illustrations to the preliminary editing, most of the process was carried out on iPad. Creative apps like Clip Studio Paint, a go-to tool for webtoon artists, and Mental Canvas Draw, which lets users place their drawings in a virtual space, were among the two of many apps that were used to create the video.

This project stands out to director Kyu Ha Kim, who has always enjoyed the iPad. He praised the iPad’s versatility across several applications, from daily use to business procedures.

Working with Namon to create a visual interpretation of Jay’s new track, and do so by using Namon’s signature webtoon style, was quite a joyful experience.

I sincerely hope people enjoy this one-of-a-kind video that was made on iPad — it’s a unique melding of Jay’s song and Namon’s drawings. I also encourage viewers to enjoy this stylish video, and find various hidden meanings, details, and easter eggs sprinkled throughout.
