July has been eventful for us Malaysians. We had a hard time finding ingredients to make fried chicken at home, we had a Malaysian conquer K-2 for the first time, and our Parliament passed the anti-party hopping law, among other things.

However, according to Google, the top trending searches for July 2022 shows that Malaysians had other things in mind. Let’s take a look.

10. India vs England

With Malaysia’s love for football and our participation in the Commonwealth games, seeing a search about a sport making it to the list is no surprise.

What’s surprising is that the search is about the India Tour of England cricket match in Birmingham.

England defeated India by 7 wickets and saw Jonny Barslow named player of the match and Joe Root as the player of the series.

9. 星汉灿烂 (Splendid Stars)

We love our dramas and that is evident with Splendid Stars being on the list. Based on the novel Splendid Xinghan, this Chinese drama was debuted on Tencent Video.

The show stars Leo Wu and Zhao Lu Si as star-crossed lovers Ling Bu Yi and Cheng Shao Shang who are caught between juggling their romantic pursuits and the challenges in their personal lives.

8. Arsenal vs Everton

Our first football entry on the list is a friendly club match which was held in the M&T Stadium in Baltimore, USA.

The match saw The Gunners win 2-0 with goals scored by Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka. This was Arsenal’s first game on its USA tour.

7. Extraordinary Attorney Woo

Our first and only K-Drama premiered on Netflix here in Malaysia.

Extraordinary Attorney Woo is the story of Woo Young-woo (Park Eun-bin), a young lawyer with Asperger’s syndrome who boasts a high IQ, detailed memory and unique thought process, but struggles with social skills.

6. RB Leipzig vs Liverpool

It’s another club-friendly match and this time it’s international and it’s a massacre.

The match, saw Liverpool defeating the German club, RB Leipzig, with a 5-0 score. 4 of the goals were scored by striker Darwin Nunez.

5. Fathi Naim

According to Google, “Ustaz Fathi Naim made headlines following his arrest by local authorities after accusations arose of the nasyid singer having assaulted an underage girl.”

However, in our search of reputable sources, the name of the “popular freelance speaker” in the case was never revealed by the police.

4. Manchester United vs Liverpool

We have another football-related search and it’s not even the last one. In this club-friendly match against Manchester United in the Rajamangala Stadium in Thailand, the Red Devils scored 4 winning goals.

Jadon Sancho, Fred, and Anthony Martial all scored within 21 minutes of the first half and Facundo Pellistri scored the fourth late in the game.

3. Takbir Raya Haji / Niat Puasa Arafah

Although Muslims perform the Eid Takbir twice a year (one day for Eid Al Fitr and three days for Eid Al Adha), we in Malaysia often forget how it goes. So naturally, we Google it before or while at the masjid as the microphone used to lead the Takbir is being passed around.

And boy did we Google it a lot!

We also Googled how to set our intention to fast during the day of Arafah, a holy day where the last right of the Hajj is performed. It is also a day when Muslims are encouraged to fast for a day.

2. Liverpool vs Crystal Palace

Our last football-related search on the list is all about how Liverpool won against Crystal Palace at the Singapore National Stadium.

Jordan Henderson and Mohamad Sallah scored the two goals giving Liverpool a 2-0 score in the club-friendly match. A morale boost after their loss to Manchester in Thailand.

1. Mental Age Test

TikTok has once again influenced the top trend of the month, this time with a viral quiz that compares one’s physical age with their mental age.

So do you agree with this list? Did you Google any of these terms last month? Google knows so keep that in mind when you search for anything on the internet this month.
