For practising Muslims, knowing the time and location is essential. The time, based on the position of the sun, tells us when to pray while location tells us in which direction we should pray, which is towards the Kaaba.

You probably know that you can just type in “prayer time” in Google and it will tell you when the next prayer time and the prayer times of the day are based on your location.

During Ramadan Fajr (sunrise) also marks when we start fasting and Maghrib (sunset) is when we break our fast.

This works best on a smartphone, Android and iOS. However, on Android, we can get an additional option to add the search as a widget on the phone.

That means you can just tap the widget to know the prayer times wherever you are. As long as you have an internet connection and you permit it to fetch your location data of course.

But, did you know that Google has a special web app that could point out the Qibla (the direction Muslims pray)?

It is called a web app, but there is nothing to install. Just Google for Qibla and it should be the first option. If you still can’t find it, just go to https://qiblafinder.withgoogle.com/.

Of course, this works best on a smartphone and it works on both Android and iOS.

The Qibla Finder will ask for access to your smartphone’s motion and orientation, camera, and current location to work.

When it’s all set, orient yourself until you find the Qibla. It even tells you how far away the Kaaba is.

The motion, orientation, and camera access are used for artificial reality (AR) features. You could also opt to turn off the camera for the AR as we did here.
