Here’s What You Should Do If You Get This New Type Of Scam On Your Phone

The timing of the scam text is so eerie that it could be more than just coincidence.

It’s always exciting when the delivery arrives. Maybe it’s something that we ordered online days ago or maybe it’s the dinner that we’ve been waiting for.

But recently something strange happened when one of our orders arrived.

We received a convincing-looking text message saying that we were overcharged and that we should contact a number via WhatsApp to get a refund.

A friend of the site told us that they have received the same sort of text after their food delivery arrived as well.

It is obviously a scam text, but we each got the text after our order arrived. Was it a coincidence or is there something more to it?

We know that the text was sent from an email to iMessage (the messaging app on iPhones).

An iPhone user could tap “Report Junk” at the bottom of the message to delete the message and tell Apple that these texts are spam.

But don’t do that just yet.

We asked the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) for advice on what we should actually do first..

The CCID of RMP

The CCID is where you go to report commercial crimes such as credit card fraud, an international scam, parcel scam, e-banking fraud, love scam, insurance fraud, inheritance fraud, and more.

We were told that these texts could be a new modus operandi (MO).

It is recommended that anyone who received this or other scam texts report it at their nearest police station.

In regard to the timing of the text, we could not be sure.

We could either have a malicious app on our iPhones that monitors our delivery alerts, it could be an inside job, or it could be a coincidence.

You can visit the CCID website where there’s a tool to check for scammer’s bank accounts and other information on commercial crimes.

You could also call the CCID at 03-26101222 or their operations room at 03-26101599.
