With the prices of groceries going up, it is only smart for us Malaysians to use all the tools at our disposal to find the best prices for our everyday essentials.
One of these tools is an app that the Ministry of Domestic Trade And Consumer Affairs Malaysia (KPDNHEP) launched back in 2019.
Honestly, we didn’t know this app existed either.
Price Catcher uses data that is updated regularly by KPDNHEP’s own Price Monitoring Officers nationwide.
Best of all, it is way easier to use than the MyPrice dashboard.

Prices are updated daily, weekly, or monthly, depending on the type of item.
The database includes prices of over 400 everyday items from fresh produce to baby products and everything in between.
What makes the app extra useful is it can list down prices of an item based on nearby hypermarkets, supermarkets, grocery shops, wet markets, and mini markets closest to you.
This way users know where to go to get the best prices before leaving home.
There is also a bar code scanning feature that lets users scan a product that they want to buy and get the price list that way.
It’s a handy tool while out shopping or while making a shopping list at home.
The app itself is clunky and can be a little slow, but it is one of the better government made apps.
Most of its other features like links to online retailers and brochures can be useful, but they are just links to websites.
Still, give this app a try the next time you go out grocery shopping and maybe you can save some money too.
