Paying for municipal parking used to be easy with parking metres. Then came the wasteful scratch coupons, and now convoluted apps.

Almost every state has their own apps, and we all know how to create municipally developed apps right? – that was sarcasm.

Despite being apps, they all use the same legacy coupon system which makes users pay more than they would use upfront.

Since we too like to travel during Malaysia’s many, many holidays and festivals, and we don’t like parking tickets, here’s a handy-dandy list of parking apps for every state in Malaysia.

We divided the list into three categories:

  • Easy – States with a single app.
  • It’sComplicated – States with multiple apps.
  • The Odd One – Third-party app that works across multiple states but not in all areas.

EASY

These are states with a single parking app that is endorsed by the municipal council.

Selangor

From 3 Jan 2022, all municipal parking in Selangor will use the Smart Selangor Parking app. It is one of the better-made apps. However, despite all the publicity, its implementation still manages to catch many off-guard.

Smart Selangor Parking is available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store

Kuala Lumpur

If you find yourself needing to park at one of Kuala Lumpur municipal parking spots, try EZ KL Smart Park. There are other third-party solutions – listed in the last section but start with this one.

EZ KL Smart Park is available on the Apple App Store, Google Play Store, and Huawei AppGallery.

Melaka

We have no idea what happened to the first app but Smart Vehicle Parking Melaka 2.0 is the app you need if you want to put your car at a municipal parking space in the historical city.

Smart Vehicle Parking Melaka 2.0 is available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

Pahang

The PahangGo app is the state’s all in one app. It could be used to pay taxes, bills, compound, purchase parking coupons and a whole lot more.

It’s designed for those who live in the state rather than visitors.

PahangGo is available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

Perak

If you are passing through Perak and want to stop at one of the many local eateries, the   Park@Perak app can save you from getting a ticket.

However, we recommend that you install and set up the app in advance, else buying the parking coupon could be the easier option.

Park@Perak is available on the Apple App Store, Google Play Store, and Huawei AppGallery.

Penang

It can not only be used to pay for parking, the Penang Smart Parking app can also be used to buy a monthly pass, pay compound, and find parking.

It’s an all-in-one app for everything parking related.

Complicated

These states use multiple apps. Here we will highlight apps that are endorsed or recommended by the municipal council.

Johor

Here’s an example of a complicated situation. The Johor Bahru City Council (MBJB) uses the MBJB Spot app.

However, the Central Johor City Council recognises the SMSParkir app which is valid in some other states as well.

Since Johor has not transitioned to using apps for all their municipal parking, it may be safer just to get the coupon instead.

MBJB Spot is available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

SMSParkir is available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

Terengganu

There is no statewide parking app for Terengganu, but the District Council of Besut uses the Smart Besut app.

Smart Besut is available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

Sarawak

There is no statewide parking app solution here either, but for those in Miri, there’s the SmartParking Borneo app.

SmartParking Borneo is available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

If your state is not mentioned above, chances are it doesn’t have its own parking app.

In that case try JomParking, Flexi Parking, and ParkByPhone.

They work in most states and locations, but not everywhere, check with the app first if it services the location you want to park your car at.

JomParking is available on the Apple App Store, Google Play Store, and Huawei AppGallery.

Flexi Parking is available on the Apple App Store, Google Play Store, and Huawei AppGallery.

ParkByPhone is available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
